Indian Medical Visa for Botswana Citizens

A Motswana patient can apply online for the e-Medical visa, or apply for a regular medical visa at the High Commission of India in Gaborone. Both need the hospital's invitation letters, which Jivo obtains.

What does the visa cost?

The Government of India sets the fee. It is shown and paid online during an e-Medical application, or paid at the High Commission for a regular visa.

How does the e-Medical visa work?

  1. The patient applies on indianvisaonline.gov.in between 120 and 4 days before arrival, uploading the passport bio page and the hospital's letter.
  2. The decision takes about three working days and arrives by email as an Electronic Travel Authorization, which the patient shows at immigration in India.

How does the regular visa application work?

The patient completes the online form on indianvisaonline.gov.in and prints it. The signed form and documents go to the High Commission of India in Gaborone on working days, from nine o'clock to noon.

Which documents does the High Commission of India in Gaborone ask for?

  • The online application form, printed and signed
  • The invitation letter generated on the FRRO medical value travel page
  • A hard copy of the invitation letter from the hospital in India where treatment will take place
  • A hard copy of the referral or recommendation letter from the patient's hospital in Botswana, justifying treatment in India
  • Supporting documents for the treatment the patient has had in Botswana for the ailment
  • A flight reservation
  • The passport, valid for at least six months, with at least two blank pages

Which visa suits which patient?

The e-Medical visa is valid for 60 days from first arrival in India, allows more than one entry and needs no visit to the High Commission. The regular visa's validity starts on the day of issue, and after approval the patient returns to the Gaborone mission to give biometrics. If treatment runs longer than the visa, the hospital and Jivo help the patient extend it on the e-FRRO portal.
