Indian Medical Visa for Mauritania Citizens

A Mauritanian patient can apply online for the e-Medical visa, or apply for a regular medical visa at the Embassy of India in Nouakchott. Both need the hospital's invitation letters, which Jivo obtains.

What does the visa cost?

The Government of India sets the fee. It is shown and paid online during an e-Medical application, or paid at the Embassy for a regular visa.

How does the e-Medical visa work?

  1. The patient uploads the passport bio page and hospital letter online.
  2. The decision takes about three working days and arrives by email as an Electronic Travel Authorization, which the patient shows at immigration in India.

Which documents does the Embassy of India in Nouakchott ask for?

  • Preliminary medical advice from a doctor or hospital in Mauritania
  • A reference letter from the Indian hospital, signed and stamped on its letterhead, giving the applicant's details, the nature of the illness and the likely duration of treatment
  • Three months of bank statements in the applicant's name, or a sponsor's affidavit with the sponsor's statements

Which visa suits which patient?

The e-Medical visa is valid for 60 days from first arrival in India, allows more than one entry in that period and is applied for online. A regular visa covers the length of the treatment, up to one year, with a maximum of three entries, and its validity runs from the day of issue. If treatment runs longer than the visa, the hospital and Jivo help the patient extend it on the e-FRRO portal.
