Indian Medical Visa for Namibian Citizens

A Namibian patient can apply online for the e-Medical visa, or apply for a regular medical visa at the High Commission of India in Windhoek. Both need the hospital's invitation letters, which Jivo obtains.

What does the visa cost?

The Government of India sets the fee. It is shown and paid online during an e-Medical application, or paid at the High Commission for a regular visa.

How does the e-Medical visa work?

  1. The patient applies on indianvisaonline.gov.in between 120 and 4 days before arrival, uploading the passport bio page and the hospital's letter.
  2. The decision takes about three working days and arrives by email as an Electronic Travel Authorization, which the patient shows at immigration in India.

How does the regular visa application work?

The patient completes the online form on indianvisaonline.gov.in and prints it. The patient signs it and applies in person at the High Commission of India in Windhoek, where biometric enrolment is mandatory. The High Commission accepts no applications by post or courier.

Which documents does the High Commission of India in Windhoek ask for?

  • The online application form, printed and signed, with one photograph
  • The passport, with six months' validity and two or more blank pages, plus a copy of its first page
  • A letter from the hospital in India confirming the patient's admission for treatment
  • The invitation letter generated on the FRRO medical value travel page, which is mandatory with the application
  • A letter from the patient's hospital or doctor attesting that treatment in India is required
  • A bank statement with enough balance to cover the medical expenses
  • For a minor, a consent letter signed by both parents, or a custody letter

Which visa suits which patient?

The e-Medical visa is valid for 60 days from first arrival in India, allows more than one entry and needs no visit to the High Commission. The regular visa can be granted for up to one year with up to three entries, but the patient applies in person in Windhoek and gives biometrics there. If treatment runs longer than the visa, the hospital and Jivo help the patient extend it on the e-FRRO portal.
