Indian Medical Visa for Iraq Citizens

An Iraqi patient needs the regular medical visa, which is issued on paper by the Embassy of India in Baghdad. The Government of India's e-Visa list does not include Iraq, which rules out the e-Medical visa. Jivo obtains the hospital's invitation letters, which the patient submits with the application.

What does the visa cost?

The Government of India sets the fee.

What are the steps for a regular medical visa?

  1. The patient fills in the online application on indianvisaonline.gov.in, selects the Baghdad mission, then prints and signs the form.
  2. The patient takes the printout and the documents to VFS Global in Baghdad or Basra on a working day, and no appointment is needed.
  3. VFS Global captures biometrics, unless they were captured within the last five years.

Which documents does the Embassy of India in Baghdad ask for?

  • The invitation letter from a recognised hospital in India, with its barcode
  • The attendant's name and passport number, endorsed in the invitation letter
  • A recommendation letter from the treating doctor in Iraq for treatment in India
  • Proof of financial standing for the stay in India
  • The original passport, valid for six months and with two blank pages, and a copy
  • A copy of the Iraqi national ID, or of the Iraqi residence permit for foreign residents
  • If the patient needs no attendant, a certificate stating so

What if treatment runs longer than the visa?

If treatment runs longer than the visa, the hospital and Jivo help the patient extend it on the e-FRRO portal.
