What does Jivo arrange before the journey?
Jivo guides the patient on the fit-to-fly certificate and on informing the airline, so the airline's approval comes in time. It also shares a pre-travel checklist and helps the patient find accommodation near the hospital.
What happens in India?
Jivo meets the patient at the airport in New Delhi. At the hospital, a Jivo case manager and a hospital coordinator guide the patient every day and coordinate tests, admission, treatment and recovery. Jivo takes the patient back to the airport when treatment ends. After the patient returns to Liberia, Jivo stays in touch with the Indian specialists about the patient's recovery.
How long does a Liberian patient stay in India?
A liver transplant needs two to three months and chemotherapy seven to nine weeks. Heart bypass surgery takes three to four weeks and a kidney transplant eight to ten. Each patient's written opinion gives their expected stay.
Which currency rules apply on the journey?
Travellers leaving Liberia may carry up to seven thousand five hundred US dollars in foreign banknotes; larger amounts must travel as bank drafts, travellers cheques or money orders. Cash above ten thousand US dollars entering Liberia must be declared to Central Bank of Liberia authorities at the port of entry. On arrival in India, foreign currency notes above five thousand US dollars, or total foreign exchange above ten thousand US dollars, must be declared to Indian Customs.
