Indian Medical Visa for Sri Lanka Citizens
A Sri Lankan patient can apply online for the e-Medical visa, or apply for a regular medical visa at the High Commission of India in Colombo. Both need the hospital's invitation letters, which Jivo obtains.

What does the visa cost?
The Government of India sets the fee. It is shown and paid online during an e-Medical application, or paid at the High Commission for a regular visa.
How does the e-Medical visa work?
- At indianvisaonline.gov.in the patient uploads a scan of the passport bio page and a copy of the hospital's letterhead letter, which includes the date suggested for admission.
- The e-Visa is emailed to the patient, who shows it when passing immigration in India.
Which documents does the High Commission of India in Colombo ask for?
- Original medical papers showing the appointment in India and the treatment in Sri Lanka
- A letter of appointment from the Indian hospital, on its letterhead, naming the patient and attendants with their passport numbers, the ailment and the expected duration of treatment
- Six months of bank statements and a solvency certificate from the bank
Which visa suits which patient?
The e-Medical visa spares the patient a visit to the High Commission and lasts 60 days from the day of first arrival, with multiple entries within that period. The High Commission does not process e-Visas, so a patient who prefers to submit original papers and bank documents in person applies for the regular visa through its visa application centre. If treatment runs longer than the visa, the hospital and Jivo help the patient extend it on the e-FRRO portal.
