Indian Medical Visa for Zimbabwean Citizens

Zimbabwean citizens have two routes to a medical visa for India: the e-Medical visa, applied for online, and the regular visa at the Embassy of India in Harare. The e-Medical visa stays valid for 60 days from first arrival in India.

Is a Zimbabwean eligible for the e-Medical visa?

Zimbabwe is entry 175 on the portal's list of e-Visa countries. That makes the e-Medical Visa open to Zimbabwean patients and the e-Medical Attendant Visa open to their companions.

What does the e-Medical application need?

  • The scanned bio page of the passport.
  • A copy of the hospital's letter from India, on letterhead, preferably showing the date or tentative date of admission.

What are the steps online?

  1. The partner hospital, which is FRRO-registered like every Jivo partner hospital, issues the Visa Invitation Letter, and Jivo arranges it with the hospital for every patient.
  2. The applicant goes to indianvisaonline.gov.in, completes the e-Visa (e-Medical) application and uploads both files. The portal expects it at least 4 days before arrival, within a window that opens up to 120 days earlier.
  3. The Electronic Travel Authorisation is emailed and is shown at the immigration checkpoint.
  4. Attendants each file their own e-Medical Attendant application, two at most for one patient.

What does the visa cost?

The visa fee is set by the Government of India and paid online with the application (or at the Indian mission for a paper visa); Jivo confirms the current fee with you before you apply.

How long does a decision take?

The portal does not state an overall processing time. Its only fixed statements are that a re-upload request goes out by email within 24 hours of submission as a rule, and that the outcome, Granted or Rejected, follows by email.

What does the Embassy in Harare ask for a regular medical visa?

The Embassy of India in Harare, which is an Embassy and not a High Commission, asks for the following with a regular medical visa application:

  • An online-registered application form, signed by the applicant, and one photograph meeting the specification.
  • Proof of return air travel, and the passport copy with the original.
  • A letter from the local hospital or doctor, or a certificate after examination, with complete treatment records.
  • A letter from the Indian hospital naming the patient and attendant and giving the estimated treatment cost, also mailed by the hospital to the Embassy.
  • A letter and guarantee from the medical aid society, where the patient is on medical aid.
  • The latest bank statement, certified by the bank, showing enough funds, or the affidavit of the sponsor with an identity or passport copy and an attested bank statement when someone else pays.
  • Proof of the attendant's relationship, and details of previous visits to India.

A regular visa requires the applicant to attend in person for biometric enrolment. The e-visa needs no visit, because biometrics are taken at Indian immigration on arrival.

How long does the e-Medical visa last?

Validity is counted from the date of first arrival, and it runs for 60 days. The passport carries a stamp for each entry made within that period.

If treatment takes longer than the visa allows, the hospital and the Jivo team help the patient apply for an extension on the e-FRRO portal.
