Jivo obtains the Visa Invitation Letter from the chosen hospital; every Jivo partner hospital is FRRO-registered.

Which medical visas can Rwandan citizens apply for?

Rwanda is one of the countries whose citizens the Government of India admits to the e-Visa, so a Rwandan patient can complete the e-Medical application online. The regular medical visa is available to every nationality and is issued on paper at the High Commission in Kigali. Validity of the e-Medical visa is two months (60 days), counted from the day the patient lands in India, with more than one entry allowed while it lasts.

What does the visa cost?

The visa fee is set by the Government of India and paid online with the application (or at the Indian mission for a paper visa); Jivo confirms the current fee with you before you apply.

How does the e-Medical visa work?

  1. The patient files the e-Medical application on indianvisaonline.gov.in at least 4 days before landing in India, and up to 120 days ahead.
  2. The patient uploads the passport bio page and a copy of the hospital's letter on its letterhead, which gives the date or tentative date of admission.
  3. The Electronic Travel Authorization arrives by email, and the patient presents it at the immigration checkpoint in India.

How long does the e-Medical decision take?

No overall processing time is published for the e-Medical visa. Should a document need to be uploaded again, the request is normally emailed within 24 hours of submission, and the decision, Granted or Rejected, follows by email.

Which documents does the Kigali High Commission ask for?

  • A signed printout of the online application form and two recent passport photographs
  • A letter from a local hospital or doctor recommending special treatment in India
  • The Indian hospital's invitation letter, naming the patient and the attendants and confirming that treatment will be provided, sent from the hospital's official email to [email protected]
  • Proof of available funds: six months' bank statement, or a receipt of payment issued by the hospital in India
  • The patient's full medical history, with referral letters from the local hospital
  • A photocopy of the passport bio page and of the national ID
  • A photocopy of the yellow fever vaccination card
  • A passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended departure from India

The High Commission receives applications between 10.00 and 12.00 on working days.

Which visa suits which patient?

The e-Medical visa is applied for and approved online. The regular medical visa is applied for in person at the High Commission in Kigali, with the printed online form and the documents above.

If treatment takes longer than the visa allows, the hospital and the Jivo team help the patient apply for an extension on the e-FRRO portal.
