Current restriction, as of 20 October 2026

Ebola-related visa restrictions currently apply to South Sudan. Jivo checks the current position with the Embassy of India in Juba before any application is filed. South Sudanese patients apply for the regular medical visa at the Embassy, and Jivo arranges the hospital's invitation letters with the partner hospital.

Can a patient fly direct from Juba to New Delhi?

There is no direct flight from Juba to New Delhi. Patients usually fly via Addis Ababa, which has daily direct flights to New Delhi. Ethiopian Airlines connects South Sudan with Addis Ababa.

What does Jivo arrange before the journey?

Jivo guides the patient on the fit-to-fly certificate and on informing the airline, so the airline's approval comes in time. It also shares a pre-travel checklist and helps the patient find accommodation near the hospital.

What happens in India?

Jivo meets the patient at the airport in New Delhi. At the hospital, a Jivo case manager and a hospital coordinator guide the patient every day and coordinate tests, admission, treatment and recovery. Jivo takes the patient back to the airport when treatment ends. After the patient returns to South Sudan, Jivo stays in touch with the Indian specialists about the patient's recovery.

How long does a South Sudanese patient stay in India?

A half-matched (haploidentical) transplant takes four to five months, an autologous stem cell transplant five to six, and spinal decompression and fixation three to four weeks. Each patient's written opinion gives their expected stay.

Which currency rules apply on the journey?

On arrival in India, foreign currency notes above five thousand US dollars, or total foreign exchange above ten thousand US dollars, must be declared to Indian Customs.
