Indian Medical Visa for Tanzanian Citizens

Tanzanians qualify for the e-Medical visa and apply online; biometrics are captured at immigration at the Indian airport. The alternative is a regular visa through the High Commission of India in Dar es Salaam. Jivo arranges the Visa Invitation Letter with the partner hospital.

Can Tanzanians apply for the e-Medical visa?

Yes. Tanzanian passport holders qualify for the e-Visa, including its e-Medical and e-Medical Attendant categories. The authorisation lasts two months (60 days) from the first landing in India and covers multiple entries. No visit to the mission is needed for biometrics on this route; immigration at the Indian airport captures them on arrival.

What does it cost?

The visa fee is set by the Government of India and paid online with the application (or at the Indian mission for a paper visa); Jivo confirms the current fee with you before you apply.

What is the sequence for the e-Medical visa?

  1. The hospital prepares a letter of its own on letterhead, with the date or tentative date of admission, while Jivo arranges the Visa Invitation Letter with that partner hospital.
  2. The window for filing on indianvisaonline.gov.in runs from 120 days down to 4 days before the patient lands. The patient submits the e-Medical form with two attachments, the scanned passport bio page and the hospital letter.
  3. The Electronic Travel Authorization arrives by email once the outcome is Granted, and the patient carries it to the immigration checkpoint in India.

A partner hospital writes the invitation, and every one of them is FRRO-registered. Jivo arranges the Visa Invitation Letter with the hospital for each Tanzanian patient.

How long does the decision take?

The portal states no overall processing time. A document that needs re-uploading is normally flagged by email within 24 hours of submission.

What does the regular visa at Dar es Salaam involve?

The regular visa starts with the online form and an appointment at the High Commission of India in Dar es Salaam, where biometrics are captured. The mission states that the validity of all visas is counted from the date of issue. The mission lists no documents specific to a medical visa, so Jivo checks what it requires before a Tanzanian files on this route.

Where does the Tanzanian patient apply and fly from?

Zanzibar has a Consulate General of India. Tanzania's capital is Dodoma, but flights to Delhi are routed from Dar es Salaam, the main city, which is also where the High Commission sits. The travel and stay guide sets out the routes.

If treatment takes longer than the visa allows, the hospital and the Jivo team help the patient apply for an extension on the e-FRRO portal.
