Current restriction, as of 18 October 2026

Ebola-related visa restrictions currently apply to Uganda. Jivo checks the current position with the Indian mission before any application is filed. Two routes exist: the e-Medical visa, applied for online with no visit to the mission, and the regular medical visa at the High Commission of India in Kampala; Jivo arranges the Visa Invitation Letter for either.

Can a Ugandan patient bring an attendant?

Yes. Ugandans can obtain the e-Medical Attendant visa, and one e-Medical visa carries up to two. Each attendant files a separate application on the portal, uploading only the passport bio page. Ebola-related visa restrictions currently apply to Uganda, and Jivo checks the current position before any application is filed, for attendants as for patients.

What does an attendant do, step by step?

  1. Apply for the e-Medical Attendant visa on the e-visa portal, within the patient's window of 120 days to 4 days before arrival.
  2. Upload the scanned passport bio page.
  3. Hand over the Electronic Travel Authorization at the immigration checkpoint in India.
  4. Give biometrics at Indian immigration on arrival.

The attendant's application carries no hospital letter, and the authorisation travels with the passport.

What does an attendant pay?

The visa fee is set by the Government of India and paid online with the application (or at the Indian mission for a paper visa); Jivo confirms the current fee with you before you apply.

What is the regular route at Kampala?

The regular medical visa at the High Commission of India in Kampala is paid for in cash, in Ugandan shillings only. Biometrics are captured at submission for ages 12 to 70.

What if the portal asks for a document again?

Any request to upload again, and later the outcome, Granted or Rejected, goes to the email account used to apply, so a Ugandan attendant whose file is held up should answer from that account.

Who issues the invitation?

The partner hospital, which is FRRO-registered like every Jivo partner hospital, issues the Visa Invitation Letter, and Jivo arranges it with the hospital for every patient.

The patient's own steps are in the Ugandan medical visa guide; for Entebbe, see the travel and stay guide, and for the sequence of steps, the process for patients.
