Current restriction, as of 18 October 2026
Ebola-related visa restrictions currently apply to Uganda. Jivo checks the current position with the Indian mission before any application is filed. Two routes exist: the e-Medical visa, applied for online with no visit to the mission, and the regular medical visa at the High Commission of India in Kampala; Jivo arranges the Visa Invitation Letter for either.
Do the Ebola-related restrictions affect a Ugandan application?
Ebola-related visa restrictions currently apply to Uganda, as at 18 October 2026. Jivo checks the current position with the Indian mission before any application is filed. The other route is the regular medical visa at the High Commission of India in Kampala, described below.
Can Ugandans apply for the e-Medical visa?
Uganda is one of the e-Visa nationalities, so a Ugandan patient can apply online for the e-Medical visa, and an attendant for the e-Medical Attendant visa. Validity is two months (60 days) from first arrival, with re-entry allowed inside the period. Biometrics are not captured at the mission for this route; they are taken at Indian immigration on arrival.
What does the e-Medical visa cost?
The visa fee is set by the Government of India and paid online with the application (or at the Indian mission for a paper visa); Jivo confirms the current fee with you before you apply.
What is the sequence for the e-Medical visa?
- The partner hospital, which is FRRO-registered like every Jivo partner hospital, issues the Visa Invitation Letter, and Jivo arranges it with the hospital for every patient.
- The earliest filing date on indianvisaonline.gov.in is 120 days before arrival and the latest is 4 days before. The patient completes the e-Medical form and uploads the scanned passport bio page and the hospital letter, which gives the date or tentative date of admission.
- The Electronic Travel Authorization comes by email, and the patient hands it over at the immigration checkpoint in India.
How long does the e-Medical decision take?
The portal states no overall processing time. It normally emails any re-upload request within a day of submission and emails the outcome, Granted or Rejected.
What does the regular visa at Kampala involve?
The High Commission of India in Kampala has jurisdiction over Uganda and Burundi. Payment at the mission is in cash, in Ugandan shillings only. Biometrics are captured at submission for applicants aged 12 to 70. The mission publishes no document list for medical visas, so Jivo asks the Kampala mission what the applicant must bring before anything is filed.
If treatment takes longer than the visa allows, the hospital and the Jivo team help the patient apply for an extension on the e-FRRO portal.
