Can Ghanaians apply for the e-Medical visa?
Yes. Ghanaian nationals are eligible for the e-Medical visa and the e-Medical Attendant visa under the Government of India's e-Visa scheme. The e-Medical visa runs for two months (60 days), counted from the day the patient first lands in India, and entries are multiple within that period.
What does the e-Medical visa cost?
The visa fee is set by the Government of India and paid online with the application (or at the Indian mission for a paper visa); Jivo confirms the current fee with you before you apply.
Which documents are uploaded?
- The passport bio page, scanned
- A copy of the Indian hospital's letter on its letterhead, including the date, or tentative date, on which admission is suggested
The partner hospital, which is FRRO-registered like every Jivo partner hospital, issues the Visa Invitation Letter, and Jivo arranges it with the hospital for every patient.
What is the sequence, step by step?
- The partner hospital issues the Visa Invitation Letter, which Jivo arranges.
- The application opens online at indianvisaonline.gov.in and must be in at least 4 days before arrival, no earlier than 120 days ahead. The patient fills in the e-Medical form online, attaching the scanned passport bio page together with the hospital letter.
- The Electronic Travel Authorization arrives by email and is shown at the immigration checkpoint in India.
- Each attendant files a separate e-Medical Attendant application.
How long does processing take?
The portal states no overall processing time. If a document must be uploaded again, the portal says so by email, normally within 24 hours of submission, and the outcome, Granted or Rejected, is also sent by email.
Is there a regular visa route in Accra?
The High Commission of India in Accra also issues regular medical and medical attendant visas. Besides the documents the mission requires for every visa type, it asks for a reference letter from the local doctor or recognised hospital treating or referring the applicant, a copy of the Indian hospital's confirmation letter sent directly to [email protected], and the applicant's bank statement.
If treatment takes longer than the visa allows, the hospital and the Jivo team help the patient apply for an extension on the e-FRRO portal.
