Which treatments do Malawians travel to India for?

Malawian patients are referred to India for radiotherapy for cancer and for other specialised treatment, and critically ill cancer patients are referred abroad, India among the destinations. Jivo has hospital estimates for radiotherapy and for the surgery and medicines that surround it.

Beyond cancer, the estimates cover coronary artery bypass grafting, kidney transplant, spinal decompression and fixation, and hip and knee replacement. How does a Malawian patient start?

The patient shares reports with Jivo on WhatsApp. Jivo prepares the case file, several specialists review it and give their opinions, and Jivo organises the consultations. A hospital estimate follows.

Once the patient chooses a hospital, Jivo obtains the Visa Invitation Letter from it and assists with the visa application. Every Jivo partner hospital is FRRO-registered. A Malawian patient travels on one of two types of medical visa. The e-Medical visa is handled online from start to finish; the regular medical visa is issued on paper by the High Commission of India in Lilongwe. Attendants apply for a medical attendant visa. When the visa is granted, the patient books the flight, and Jivo meets the patient at the airport in New Delhi and assigns a case manager and a hospital coordinator.
