Indian Medical Visa for Zambian Citizens

Zambian citizens apply for the e-Medical visa on the Government of India e-visa portal, entirely online. The visa lasts 60 days from the day the patient first arrives in India. Jivo arranges the Visa Invitation Letter with the partner hospital, which is FRRO-registered.

Can a Zambian citizen get the e-Medical visa?

Yes. The portal's list of e-Visa countries carries Zambia as entry 174, and the services on that list include the e-Medical Visa and the e-Medical Attendant Visa.

Which documents does the application need?

  • The passport's bio page, scanned.
  • The Indian hospital's letter on its own letterhead. The portal suggests it carry the date, or tentative date, on which admission is advised.

What are the steps from hospital letter to arrival?

  1. The partner hospital, which is FRRO-registered like every Jivo partner hospital, issues the Visa Invitation Letter, and Jivo arranges it with the hospital for every patient.
  2. On indianvisaonline.gov.in the patient fills in the e-Visa (e-Medical) form and attaches the passport page and the hospital letter. The portal wants the application at least 4 days before arrival and takes it up to 120 days ahead.
  3. An Electronic Travel Authorisation reaches the patient by email, to be shown at immigration on arrival in India.
  4. Every attendant, to a maximum of two, files an e-Medical Attendant application of their own.

What does the visa cost?

The visa fee is set by the Government of India and paid online with the application (or at the Indian mission for a paper visa); Jivo confirms the current fee with you before you apply.

How long does a decision take?

The portal gives no overall processing time. It says that a request to upload a document again is normally emailed within 24 hours of submission, and that Granted or Rejected is emailed once the outcome is known.

How long does the visa last?

Counted from the day of first arrival, the visa lasts 60 days. Entries made within that period are multiple and are stamped on the passport.

If treatment takes longer than the visa allows, the hospital and the Jivo team help the patient apply for an extension on the e-FRRO portal.

Travel and Stay in India from Zambia sets out the route from Lusaka, the attendant guide covers the companions, and the process for patients follows the steps after the visa.
