Travel and Stay in India from Zambia

Is there a direct flight from Lusaka to Delhi?

No airline flies Lusaka (LUN) to Delhi non-stop. The usual routing is one stop, via Addis Ababa on Ethiopian or via Dubai on Emirates, and the journey takes about 19 hours. Etihad and Oman Air serve the route with two stops.

Who books the flight?

The patient books the flight with the airline or a local agent once the visa is granted.

What does Jivo organise before the patient flies?

Jivo organises the hospital appointment in advance and guides medical passengers on the airline's fit-to-fly requirements, so that approval comes in time.

Who meets a Zambian patient at Delhi airport, and where do they stay?

Jivo organises the airport pickup and offers budget accommodation options near the hospital, with their costs.

How long does a patient from Zambia stay in India?

A kidney transplant typically means eight to ten weeks in India. A coronary bypass needs three to four weeks, and an aortic valve replacement two to three.

For the brain and spine, craniotomy for brain tumour and spinal decompression and fixation each typically take three to four weeks. Radiation therapy typically takes six to eight weeks and chemotherapy seven to nine.

These ranges are guidelines, rarely exact, and the specialist confirms each patient's expected stay.

Who is with the patient in India?

In India, a Jivo case manager and a counterpart from the hospital team coordinate the day-to-day treatment steps and the patient's well-being, so someone is always with the patient.

Before departure, the Jivo team shares a pre-travel checklist with each patient, including the expected weather in Delhi for the travel dates.

The visa itself is covered in the medical visa guide, the companions in the attendant guide.
